Snip App Reviews

Great App

Exactly what i was looking for!

All the bells & whistles!

Love this app! Being able to add text to a screenshot before it saves to my system is awesome! One problem, I just upgraded to 10.9 and now it no longer captures entire scrolling area. This was another great feature which I really need back! Please fix!

Screencapture with built in annotation features.

Mac OSX has built in screen capture functionality (shift-command-3 and shift-command-4), so why bother with a screen capture app like Snip? Well, the reason I like snip is that it has built in features allowing you to add circles, boxes, arrows, pen and text to the screenshot before saving it. Sure, you could use shift-command-4, then open the image in Paintbrush or other image editor, but that adds an extra step. Snip is fairly lightweight (I have the Activity Monitor open and it is only using 13 MB of memory), so there isn’t much of a performace hit to keeping it open.

Used to work

Ever since upgrading to Mavericks it doesn’t work on my main display that is connected to my Mac Mini, I have to move the window to the secondary monitor first then take the capture. Kind of annoying. I tried to contact the developer but the links are not in English, poor support!

Fastest on MAC I’ve found so far - efficient but...

This is ALMOST exactly what we need. SKITCH guys and gals - please read this. Many of us are looking for FAST and efficient ways to communicate. Often this is simpley to snapshot a part of the screen, draw a circle around it and past it in an email or post. Here is a rare case where Windows has one up on MAC. Snipping tool allow me to: 1. start the tool with a click - get a crosshairs 2. select the area (I rarely want full screen) 3. now the snipped picture is in focus and I can draw on it WITHOUT HAVING TO SELECT SOMETHING 4. Paste the annotated picture where I want. This app is similar with an extra step which is a waste of time (default tool selection should be in the preferences) 1. start the tool with a short cut key - get a crosshairs 2. select the area 3. Now must select the tool to use (pencil, arrow, etc. I’d like to see this in preferences as a default selection. 4. now the snipped picture is in focus and I can draw on it 5. now I must select a check mark (I don’t want the saved to file so I turned that off in preferences - THANKS for that option ! (SKITCH are you reading) 6. Paste the annotated picture where I want. It’s close and I will use it…..but hope for a little more efficiency down the road. Thanks!

I want to select where my images are saved, not Snip

It’s an OK program but it’s not as polished as Skitch 1.0.12. My primary complaint is that Snip forces me to save it to either the “Pictures” or “Downloads” folder within my user directory. I don’t want them sent there. I have two drives, an SSD and a harddrive in my 27” i7 iMac, and I want to send all “temporary” downloads to a “Downloads” directory on the hard drive, NOT the SSD. No can do with Snip. Deleted.

Very Handy…

…especially for quick e-mail tech support ‘explanations.’ Many thanks.

Love it but…...

I love this program but I have the box checked to launch on startup but each time I restart my computer it is not there????? Not sure what is going on.

Does not support snipping on second monitor

Snip doesn’t seem to support taken snippets from my second Thunderbolt monitor on 10.9.x. Other than that it works mostly as advertised.

Almost as good as the one on my office (windows) laptop

I wanted a clipping tool on my MacBook like the one on my office pc. I searched around and this one got the most favorable reviews. The reason I gave it 4 stars insteat of 5 have already been mentioned here but I’ll mention them again. The tool is not intuitive. You can’t have your choice of download site and the biggest one for me is there are no border lines being drawn as you drag the pointer from one corner to the other corner of what you want to snip.

ifa

I installed it because the QQ mail required it for file transfer. Since it’s not compatible with Safari 8 and OS X Yosemite so the file transfer in QQ mail becomes useless.

not user friendly

though accesibility is friendly…I cant find its preferences…how to uninstall? it is always in running mode so unable to delete… What is this going on? somebody pls help me to remove this app.

Could only capture on Extended desktop

Could not use on regular desktop, would only allow snap on extended desktop. Uninstalling.

seems to work well

but I havent found as many uses (more uses) than what I can do with standard OSX commands. seems like they could also have a few less key pushes to get what you want.

Tricky, but it works!!!

So, after fretting about the fact that each time I tried to click on the application icon it would not open, I realized it will not open when you click on it, because in the top bar of the browswer where you have all of the information icons (time, battery life, date, wifi etc.) it is already running. That was a “Doh” moment for me! After that all you do is just click on the scissors icon, capture what you want, and if you don’t have the screen up that you want to capture something on, hit the ESC key. It takes you out of active mode but does not “close” the application. You then click again in the top right corner where you see the scissors icon and you can snip away to your heart’s content. If you try to open it with the application icon, when the scissors icon is in the top corner, you will spin your wheels, just like I did. You will beinstalling and uninstalling until **EUREKA** you figure it out like I did, or you read this review…enjoy! To close the appliction use the pull down menu from the icon at the top of your screen. Only after having closed the application do you see that icon disappear. Then, and only then, do you need to click on the application icon in launchpad to open it when you want to use it again. Running a MacBookPro *2010 with Mavericks on one partitioned hard drive and Yosemite on the other…works on both.

My most used utility application

It’s fast, intuitive, and useful. I’m a student and if I need to screenshot a graph or data from a PowerPoint lecture slide (or online textbook) to put into my notes, this is the quickest and easiest way to do so without interupting what I’m doing. The “Grab” utility that comes with a Mac just doesn’t cut it, plus you can’t draw directly on the screenshots in that. Plus, a quick screen/window/image grab is always available, I don’t have to go to a separate application to do it, Snip is always open. I have yet to come across any bugs. I’ve recommended this to my friends/family as a great utility.

It’s fabulous !!

I love the quality of the catured photos by it and importantly i can put text in them.

It launches into the Ether.

This is pretty pointless. I launch the app an nothing happens.

good but missing one click entire screen shot

it’s a good tool, small, light and easy to use. I have two problem with this tool. One is this app just stopped open one day, don’t know what happen, still have icon on my computer but actually, app is no longer exist. go to apple store install again fix the problem. just hope this issue won’t happen again. Another problem is this snip no longer have entire screen shot. I would like to caputure entire screen with one click to save thime, rather than drag it to select the box when I don’t need too. Please add that feature back. It is avaliable before with older version still love to have it with this one.

No El Capitan Support

App will not install on El Capitan. Try to install through App Store and all you get is “Use purchases page to try again"
